AT&T Center Collection of Art: Plaza Level, Cisneros

George Cisneros (San Antonio)
Atomic Spur, 2002

Brushed aluminum, neon, and LED
Fabrication by Capital Manufacturing

George Cisneros’ Atomic Spur consists of a three-dimensional silver atom made of LED lights, which are sequenced rapidly to depict the motion of the electrons and protons of the atom. This shape is attached to a boot band, which is constructed of brushed aluminum and outlined in a double line of neon.

Cisneros explains the symbolic significance behind Atomic Spur by saying, “[The Atomic Spur] began as a celebration of the silver atom, the substance of the finest of spurs. For over 400 years, explorers, horsemen, ranchers and collectors have prized spurs made from Durango’s silver mines. It is not surprising that the spur was chosen as an icon and name for our ABA and NBA teams.”

Cisneros is a native San Antonian who received a BA in Music from the University of Houston and a Masters of Music Composition from Ohio State University. He has exhibited his artwork and performed at both national and international venues.
