AT&T Center Collection of Art: Terrace Level, Field

Charles Field (San Antonio)
Sunrise, South Jetty, Port Aransas, 2002

Oil on canvas
54 x 48 in. each

Charles Field was first struck by “the enormity and rapid transformation of the Texas sky” during Air Force summer training in Laredo in 1957. These powerful images have proven to be a great inspiration for Field ever since, as evidenced by his magnificent paintings displayed in the AT&T Center. When speaking of these works Field remarks, “My six oil paintings for the AT&T Center are essentially ‘skyscapes’. Each has a low horizon, which gives the viewer a sense of place and scale. The expansive space above is devoted entirely to the sky. I want the paintings at the AT&T Center to add to the audience’s enthusiasm. I’d encourage the viewer to look up and rediscover the extraordinary dynamics and beauty of Texas skies.”

Field recently retired after 28 years as a Professor of Art at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He received his BFA from Stanford University and an MFA from the University of Washington.
