AT&T Center Collection of Art: Charter Level, Parker

Johnice Parker (Dallas)
After the Ride II, 2002

Pastel on board
36 x 60 in.

Johnice Parker describes her artistic inspiration with the following quote: “Before I begin to create any artwork, I sit at my easel and ask for God’s guidance. It is through His direction that my work evolves. As I focused on these western subjects, I was inspired by the contributions that are so often overlooked regarding black cowboys and cowgirls of color. As we pray for blessings on America, that prayer must include these strong men and women who helped to make and shape Her. I honor them through this body of work.”

Parker received a BFA from the Memphis Academy of Art and did post-graduate studies at Memphis State University. Her work is found in impressive collections such as those of B. B. King, Memphis Slim, and Alberta Hunter. She has also produced artwork for the sets of The Cosby Show and Waiting to Exhale.
