Kent Rush
Berm, 1982
Acrylic on paper
52 x 81 in.
This painting by Kent Rush is from a
period in which he worked on stretched paper panels.
In the catalogue to a retrospective of Rush’s
work at the McNay, Lyle Williams, curator of prints
and drawings, wrote that these works are “completely
abstract with only the expressiveness of lines, tones,
and textures to carry the composition.”* The
subtleties of this painting begin to emerge the longer
a person looks at it.
*Lyle Williams, Kent Rush: A Retrospective
1970-1998, (San Antonio: The Marion Koogler McNay
Art Museum, 1998) p. 22.
Kent Rush received a BFA at the California
College of Arts and Crafts, and MA at the University
of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and an MFA at the University
of Texas in Austin. He is a professor of painting,
drawing and printmaking at the University of Texas
at San Antonio.
