AT&T Center Collection of Art: Charter Level, Sawyer

Margo Sawyer (Austin)
Fragments of Index for Contemplation, 2002

Powder coated steel
Variable dimensions

Margo Sawyer’s artwork explores the spiritual and the sacred. The installation for the AT&T Center is composed of fragments from her installation for the Austin Convention Center. Her works “aim at restoring the quality of sacred spaces within a contemporary vocabulary, placing the viewer within spaces of reflection and contemplation…walls and floors become membranes and vehicles to other worlds, forming a metaphor for our own emotional interior.”*

Margo Sawyer received her BA from the Chelsea School of Art in London and her MFA in sculpture from Yale University. She is an associate professor of sculpture at The University of Texas at Austin and is the director of the 1/4 Hora Project Space in Elgin, Texas.
