Hills Snyder (San Antonio)
Double Plus, 1998
Red mirror and green acrylic on birch
24 x 24 x 8 in.
Hills Snyder proposed Double Plus for
the AT&T Center as a semi-site specific sculpture.
This piece was part of Snyder’s 1998 exhibition
entitled “Gloville” in Luxembourg. The
image is derived from a European-style pharmacy sign
taken out of context, refined and then used as the
sole representation of a site. This symbol triggers
the memories of a global community since the image
of a red cross is often associated with the Red Cross
and aid in times of disaster. It was therefore logical
to place this sculpture outside of the AT&T first aid
station.
Snyder currently resides in Helotes.
He received his M.F.A. from the University of Texas
at San Antonio. He is a recipient of a Mid-America
Alliance /NEA Fellowship and two Art Matters Fellowships.
