On March 18, 2002, the San Antonio Spurs began their deposit
campaign to secure a WNBA team in San Antonio. 6,000 $50 Season
Ticket deposits were needed by November 15, 2002 in order
to bring a WNBA team to the Alamo City. The goal was met and
the San Antonio Silver Stars were born kicking off their inaugural
season in river city at the AT&T Center in May 2003.
The WNBA is the world's premier Women's Basketball League.
In it's six years of existence the league has doubled in size
going from eight (8) to 16 teams. The WNBA Season runs from
Memorial Day (May) to Labor Day (September), and provides
affordable summertime, family entertainment. With an average
game attendance over 9,000, the WNBA ranks fourth in the most
popular sports league in the U.S.
